Cómo empezó todo / How It All Began:

En 2003, un grupo de personas con espíritu comunitario de la Iglesia Centennial Covenant se enteró de la suburbanización de la pobreza y comenzó a explorar si realmente existía una comunidad en dificultades en los suburbios de Littleton. Después de hablar con las fuerzas del orden locales, descubrieron una comunidad en el noreste de Littleton donde la participación en pandillas, el ausentismo escolar y el embarazo adolescente eran frecuentes. In 2003, a group of community-minded people from Centennial Covenant Church learned about the suburbanization of poverty and began to explore if there was indeed a struggling community in suburban Littleton. After talking with local law enforcement, they discovered a community in northeast Littleton where gang involvement, truancy, and teen pregnancy were prevalent. This group then decided to start an after school kids club out of an apartment right in the neighborhood.
Soon, they had grown out of the apartment and began partnering with a neighborhood church for a facility. In 2005, North Littleton Promise became a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit and in 2010, the City of Littleton presented founding Director, Katie Brooks, and current Executive Director, Maureen Shannon, with the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Service Award. North Littleton Promise has matured into an organization that partners with over 45 local churches, schools, organizations, and businesses and offers after school programs, soccer teams, summer camps, and a variety of community-building workshops and events. Through it all, our focus and priorities remain the same: walking alongside the incredible kids and families in northeast Littleton as they grow in Faith, Education, and Leadership. |
